Members of Parliament will Wednesday sit to vet the appointment of Edward Ssekandi as the vice president of Uganda from 2016-2021.
Ssekandi was named by President Yoweri Museveni as his deputy in the 2016 cabinet released on Monday evening.
Ssekandi, 73, has been Vice President of Uganda since 24 May 2011.
Prior to that, he served as the Speaker of Parliament from 2001 to 2011.
He has served as Member of Parliament for Bukoto County Central constituency since 1996.
According to the Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige, legislators are expected to approve Ssekandi’s appointment tomorrow ahead of the 2016/17 National Budget reading.
The MPs, according to the message sent to them, will meet at 9am to approve the VP and constitution of the appointments committee which approves Ministers, judges and heads of government departments.
The VP was recently in the news as a source of social media ridicule and internet trolls after appearing in a strange attire during the State of the Nation Address.
