Parliament in conjunction with the Presidential Awards Committee is scheduled to decorate over 1,000 legislators who have served in the House since independence with the Golden Jubilee Medal.
The ceremony, where current MPs, who served in previous Parliament, will also be honored, is slated for Kampala Serena Hotel on Monday 26 September 2016.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, said the awards are being given “in recognition of their service to the nation.”
“Not everyone who served is on the list because some have already received their medals,” said Kadaga asking MPs to inform families of deceased former legislators about the event.
Uganda has had nine parliaments since independence until the 9th Parliament in May 2016.
In a communication to the former MPs, the Clerk to Parliament asked former MPs to pick up their awards in person, and that persons picking up awards on behalf of awardees to have a letter of authorization.
