Legislators on Wednesday, 4th November, 2015 paid tribute to the Late Hon. Stanley Omwonya Oribdhogu, Member of Parliament for Okoro County, Zombo District.
The deceased succumbed to heart failure on Monday, 2nd November 2015 at Kampala International Hospital.
While moving a Motion to pay tribute to the deceased, the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda said,
“We need to appreciate his discipline, leadership skills and love for his people and the kingdom of Alur; which saw him overwhelmingly elected as the NRM flag bearer for the newly created Ora County, in Nebbi District.”
He further stressed that the Late Omwonya dedicated his working life to the stability, unity and development of not only his constituency of Okoro County, but the whole country.
“The Late Omwonya was a soft spoken person who advanced the development of the entire country above his own interest. He placed service above self for the wellbeing of the people that he and all of us represent in Parliament. He should be applauded and will be dearly missed,” Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, who was representing the Leader of the Opposition, said.
Hon. David Bahati said that the late was of stable character and a man of his word.
He thanked the people of Zombo District for raising such a selfless and dedicated man.
“As we pay tribute to our fallen colleague, my prayer is that God teaches us to number our days and use them with wisdom. We need to appreciate the purpose of life, and forgiveness is paramount in our everyday lives” he added.
In the Motion, Parliament paid condolences to the family and friends of the legislator and took cognisance of his contribution to Uganda.
His Requiem Mass was held Thursday, 5th November 2015, at Our Lady of Africa Mbuya at 9am.
