All the 428 legislators in the 10th Parliament have been asked to group themselves into “threes” and submit their names to their respective party chief whips space crisis hits the August House.
All the MPs at the weekend are reported to have received a text message asking them to form groups in order to be allocated office space.
“Dear Colleague, you are kindly requested to group yourselves in threes and submit [your names] to Office of Government Chief Whip on Monday [May] 23 for office allocation. Thanks for bearing with us…..” the message read in part.
The out-going Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa is reported to have said that when allocating office space, special considerations will be made for the MPs with disabilities and parliamentary commissioners.
Spekaing during the swearing in ceremony of speaker Rebecca Kadaga and deputy Jacob Oulanyah, President Yoweri Museveni said government would construct a larger parliament.
This was after Kadaga pointed out that the chamber was too small for the legislators.
“I know. I’m responsible for a big parliament. When I visit the villages, people ask me for constituencies. We will address that,” Museveni said.
