Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] party president Amb Olara Otunnu is expected to hand over power to another leader on July 1.
Addressing press at the party headquarters in Kampala on Thursday, Otunnu said he will hand over the party leadership to his vice president, Joseph Bbosa.
He accused Jimmy Akena’s faction and President Yoweri Museveni of sabotaging his earlier plans to hand over power peacefully.
“The election season is over. I now must pass on the responsibility to another person,” he said.
His deputy Bbosa said he was ready to take over.
He called upon all leaders to support him so his reign is a successful one.
His predecessor has been the party president since 2010.
