Former Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] President Olara Otunnu has dismissed the ruling NRM-UPC Memorandum of Understanding.

Otunnu says Jimmy Akena and his Betty Amongi are projects that President Yoweri Museveni came up with to disorganise the opposition party.

“They are his weapons of choice to destabilise UPC,” Otunnu said Tuesday while appearing on NBS TV.

He said the Memorandum of Understanding signed between NRM and Akena’s faction is proof of that.

“This is not an alliance between UPC and President Museveni but an alliance between masqueraders Jimmy Akena, Betty Amongi and Museveni.”

He added: “It is inconceivable that UPC would go to bed with President Museveni. It hasn’t happened and it will not happen. Never.”

Otunnu said all actions of Akena and his wife Amongi are in conformity of a Museveni project to destabilise UPC from within.

The president who reportedly paid school fees for Amongi, recently appointed her minister of Lands.

Akena, on the other hand, says he would rather be naive and optimistic rather than bitter and vindictive like Otunnu.

Akena said in anycase, Joseph Bbosa who replaces Olara Otunnu is not the president of Uganda People’s Congress [UPC].

“He doesn’t have the support of members. I am the president of UPC.”

He went on: “I worked for my food. I campaigned and won. Olara Otunnu is bitter because President Museveni took food out of his mouth. I have been reaching out to Olara Otunnu but he is not responding. Even Prof. Kakonge came by 6th floor.”
