Members of the opposition in conjunction with human rights activists have organized a ‘liberation march to state house protesting what they called continued abuse of human rights by government.
According to Makindye West parliamentary elect Mr Allan Ssewanyana, they are mobilising 10million people to participate in the March 10 peaceful demonstration.
“It is our constitution rights to demonstrate and this is aimed at showing the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s brutal movement that power belongs to people not guns,” he said in a statement.
According to him, the peaceful march will be funded by the American embassy in Kampala, United Nations, Human rights Groups Uganda, Inter-religious council Uganda, European Union, Elders forum Uganda, Forum for Democratic change, Ugandans living in diaspora. Democratic Party Uganda, Buganda kingdom, Busoga kingdom, among others.
He said participants in the demonstration include, NGOs, lawyers, opposition leaders, religious leaders, doctors, teachers, bankers, business leaders, MPs, University and high school students, parents, taxi drivers, boda boda riders and all concerned citizens.
The demonstration comes at the hill of continued house arrest of main opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
