Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party deputy spokesperson Mr Ofwono Opondo has ripped renowned researcher and executive director of Research World International (RWI) Dr Patrick Wakida, accusing him of trying to extort money from the party.
Speaking vigorously on the Capital Gang show on Saturday, Mr Opondo claimed that Mr Wakida approached him and asked for shs 50m in exchange for swinging an opinion poll in favor of the NRM.
“Wakida is a peddler. During last year’s poll in July he rang me and asked for a meeting. When we met, he demanded for Shs 50m so that he could do something with the results,” Opondo said.
The development comes not even a week after RWI released a poll showing a decline in the NRM presidential flag bearer’s support. The poll put Museveni at a miserable 51% just days after Government newspaper New Vision threw his support to a staggering 71%.
Another major media house the Daily Monitor had previously released a poll in which they indicated that NRM’s Yoweri Museveni was ahead of close rivals at 59.9%.
However, Mr Opondo rubbished RWI’s polls which he claimed were full of bias and those in charge are nothing but a group of opposition inclined-money seeking individuals.
“Wakida) made another attempt this year before releasing the poll results. This time he asked for Shs 20m so that the results can be in favor of the NRM. Godber Tumuishabe was instrumental in the creation of TDA. That such a person was in charge of the poll’s quality assurance, framing questions and sampling leaves a lot of bias, “Mr Opondo added.
