NRM deputy spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, has described presidential aspirant, Amama Mbabazi, as cooked meat ready to be eaten for dinner.
“Amama is NRM’s meat and we are going to eat him for dinner,” the government spokesperson and Media Centre boss said Friday.
Opondo’s remarks were in relation to Mbabazi’s announcement that he will not stand on the NRM ticket but as an independent candidate.
Amama said he has been hounded by his party and although he is a senior member, he thought it necessary to come on an independent ticket.
“We wish him (Amama Mbabazi) the best, we know he is going to stand in the opposition,” Opondo said.
Earlier, Opondo had said Amama’s journey as an independent candidate was doomed to fail.
“Honestly am not sure Amama has a journey as Independent…He is cooked meat, we will have him for dinner.”
Appearing on a political show dubbed “Capital Gang” last Saturday, Opondo said power itself was ideological.
He cited an example of Norbert Mao who he said has “nothing to show for his leadership of DP”.
“In the NRM, we don’t deny that there are series of contradictions,” he said.
He said despite internal differences (brought about by Mbabazi), NRM still remained a mass party and it stands for social transformation.
“Those blaming NRM for their problems is what we call escapism and defeatism.”
Opondo suggested that if Amama Mbabazi has problems with the law, “let him go to court”.
“If Amama Mbabazi is decent enough he should return the NRM card, resign from parliament and become an independent.”
