The Democratic Party (DP) has called upon government led by president Yoweri Museveni to reopen Makerere University saying the continued closure has not only affected the students but also Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Following the university closure by President Museveni last week, Mulago hospital management said they had been hit by shortage of health personal because the student doctors Who had been helping them were told to go home following as per government directive.
Democratic party spokesperson person Paul Kakande on Tuesday said government should increasing to find for the country’s biggest public university instead of closing it and forcing innocent students home.
“Most of the students who study at Makerere University are on private sponsorship. Government has been known for delay or defaulting payment of tuition for its sponsored students,” I said.
In an October 4 letter, the first lady who also doubles as the minister of education, Janet Kataha Museveni had written to the university’s School of Public health with instruction to keep it open.
