One person has been confirmed dead and 20 others seriously injured after a Global Coach bus rammed into a Fuso truck along Masaka-Mbarara Highway.
The accident happened near near Kyazanga Town in Lwengo District.
The deceased was the bus driver while the injured are the passengers.
Grace Nampijja, the Masaka Regional Traffic Officer attributed the accident to reckless driving saying the bus which was heading to Mbarara rammed into a Fuso truck heading in the same direction before swerving off the highway and rolling several times.
This is the second accident in a space of three days along Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara highway after the launch of Fiika Salaama (reach safely) operation. A Burundi bound trailer overturned and destroyed a roadside house at Kaddugala village near Masaka Town on Tuesday this week.
The Fiika Salaama operation was launched to sensitize drivers and other travellers on road safety and also putting police checks in almost all black spots on this highway.
This comes just days after police said it had arrested anout 185 errant drivers along Mbarara-Masaka-Kampala highway.
They were arretesd in an operation to crack down on errant drivers whose actions have led to increased accident cases that have claimed several innocent lives.
