On-form NRM loses Lwengo MP over forged papers

Cissy Namujju (Lwengo Woman), also NRM, loses her seat over forged academic papers

Masaka High Court has nullified the election of Cissy Namujju, the Lwengo woman Member of Parliament on account of forged academic papers.

Martin Kizito Sserwanga, a resident of Bunga in Kampala dragged Namujju to court for lack of the requisite academic qualifications to be a member of parliament.

Kizito accuses Namujju of using forged academic certificates for her nomination saying her Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates identify her as Cissy Namuju Dionizia while her birth certificate has Namujju Busaba.

Uganda Radio Network reports a dramatic scene that ensured in court during the cross examination of Namujju on Thursday.

Namujju appeared before Justice Margaret Tibulya for cross examination by Kizito’s lawyer Asuman Basalirwa.

Basalirwa first asked Namujju to give a brief background of education starting with primary.

He asked her to tell court when she sat her Primary Leaving Examination and how she performed in each of the four subjects.

In her response, Namujju told court she sat PLE in 1996 and obtained 30 points.

She however, said she could not remember the scores of each of the subjects.

This prompted Basalirwa to ask Namujju selected questions from primary.

He asked Namujju to define pollination, explain the difference between a Noun and Verb, and tell court who discovered the source of River Nile.

He also asked her to explain crop-rotation, what a map is and mulching.

The legislator reportedly looked at the roof, the windows, the magistrate, the floor, “everywhere” but still failed to produce a single answer to the asked questions.

Court ruled that she had forged the academic papers and never acquired the credentials she claims to possess.

She becomes the sixth NRM member to lose a parliamentary seat over lacking academic credentials.

On Friday, Jinja High Court nullified Iganga Municipality MP Peter Mugema’s election over voter bribery accusations.

On the same day, Court in Luweero kicked out another National Resistance Movement (NRM) Member of Parliament Lillian Nakate over voter bribery.

On Wednesday, the High Court in Mbale kicked out of Parliament NRM’s Vincent Woboya, who had in February been declared winner of the Budadiri East seat, citing failure to retire in accordance with the law.

On Tuesday, the MP for Lugazi Municipality Isaac Mulindwa Ssozi was also thrown out of Parliament also for lack minimum academic qualifications.

Last week, the High Court in Kampala declared the Busiro South MP seat vacant after NRM’s Peter Ssematimba was found to be lacking the requisite academic qualifications.
