The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon Wafula Oguttu suggests that the position of deputy Speaker of Parliament should be reserved for opposition members.
Last week, NRM Members of Parliament were caucusing in Kyankwanzi and among others, would touch the topic of who will lead the Parliament of Uganda in the next term.
Rebecca Kadaga and her deputy Jacob Oulanyah are still vying for the positions they occupy currently.
Speaking to NBS TV on Tuesday, Oguttu said as opposition, they recommended that the deputy speakership be left to opposition but this was “ignored”.
Oguttu further recommended the position of deputy LOP to assist the leader of opposition in Parliament.
“As leader of opposition, I tried to start dialogue with NRM. That didn’t work out although they are trying to restart it.”
Oguttu says the 10th Parliament is going to be worse than the 9th because many MP-elects are young and inexperienced.
Aside from speakership, Oguttu accused Electoral Commission chairman Eng Badru Kiggundu of “announcing the wrong candidate” in the 2016 elections.
“That is why as a party, we demand for an independent audit.”
He said FDC is a peaceful party.
“That is why we are turning to peaceful measures to call for an audit of the results.”
According to Oguttu, the judiciary belongs to President Yoweri Museveni.
“When you go there, you go there on his terms.”
