Dr. Dick Odur, the former vice chairperson to People’s Progressive Party, has been chosen unopposed as the party’s national chairperson replacing Bidandi Ssali.

On Thursday, PPP officials met ahead of the party’s delegates conference.

Now former People’s Progressive Party president, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali, addressed the members about the programme of the conference.

In a message read for him, Bindadi offered to hand over power to new leadership.

He said it was important to mentor youth and let sober-minded people take over power in Uganda.

According to the spokesperson for PPP, Saddam Gayira, more than 300 delegates turned up at Our Lady of Africa Kindergarten in Mbuya to elect party leaders.

At the Saturday delegates’ conference, leaders chose Odur to replace the ageing Bidandi who retired from the party politics early this year

According to the party’s Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Musinguzi Enock, Odur is the only person who picked nomination forms for the position of the party national chairperson.

Addressing the party’s delegates at Our Lady of Africa Kindergarten in Mbuya, Odur said that he will work for party unity.

Odur also sits at The Democratic Alliance [TDA] Committee.

At the 2-day event will see the election of vice chairman, secretary general, treasurer and others.

The event will also see the party make some constitutional amendments and make some resolutions.

The members will also honour Bindadi for having led the party and brought it where it is currently.
