Nyakana, Engola win NRM executive seats



With most of the aspirants stepping down for their rivals at the Namboole conference, NRM delegates found themselves forced to vote only two sets of candidates.

Only two positions, NRM vice chairperson for Kampala region and northern region were up for contestation.

Godfrey Nyakana was battling Singh Katongole, the former NRM national treasurer for the Vice Chairman position Kampala region.

Eng Hilary Onek was also battling Sam Engola for the position of vice chairperson Northern region.

At the close of the exercise [around 10pm], the NRM electoral commission as promised, announced the winners in the presence of the party chairman, President Yoweri Museveni.

Nyakana picked 3,389 votes (64.1%) beating Katongole who got 1,544 votes.

Nyakana was declared winner of the Kampala Vice Chairperson.

In Northern Region, Sam Engola gathered 3,338 votes against Eng. Hilary Onek’s 1534 votes.

Engola was declared the national vice chairman Northern region.
