NRM deputy secretary general, Richard Todwong, says the party national treasurer, Rose Namayanja, is out of danger.
Namayanja is currently admitted at Nakasero hospital in Kampala following yesterday’s car accident.
In a statement, the party communications officer, Rogers Mulindwa, says Namayanja had a segmental fracture in the right thigh bone [femur].
“The bone was broken into more than two pieces.”
She did not sustain any other injuries.
A team headed by Dr Isaac Kaija carried out a surgery on her last evening to put the broken pieces together.
“An interlocking nail was inserted during what doctors have described as a successful surgery,” Mulindwa said.
SShe is expected to remain the hospital for one to two weeks depending on how long it will take to stabilise on crutches without putting any weight on the operated leg.
Meanwhile, her bodyguard, Richard Kayze, and the driver, Ismail Sebunya, have been discharged.
Namayanja’s mother, Catherine Namirembe, is still undergoing treatment.
Namayanja was involved in a head-on collision with a truck along the Kampala Gulu highway.
