Members of the NRM Poor Youth Brigade have resolved to walk all the way to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi to meet the US President, Barack Obama, who will be visiting his home country.

The walk expected to last for one month is dubbed: “The Long Walk To Freedom” and is expected to kick off in June.

The group led by Richard Kirekyankuba, told press in Kampala yesterday that they will deliver a petition to Obama highlighting the current situation in Uganda.

They have already written the US Embassy in Uganda inviting Obama to visit the country as well.

Their letter is addressed to the US Ambassador in Uganda, Scott Delshi, and reads in part: “We cordially wish to extend our invitation to President Obama to come to Uganda after winding up his Kenya visit whose proximity is very close to that of Uganda to enable us pour out our grievance to him.”

The youth will also share with Obama the current unemployment in the country and remind him that while he is against leaders who overstay in power, their own President Yoweri Museveni is doing the same.

Campaign to democratize NRM

Another sister group, NRM POOR YOUTH FORUM is the leading campaigner in the demand for internal democracy with in the National Resistance Movement organization and a peaceful transfer of power from President Museveni to the Rt. Hon Amama Mbabazi in 2016.

“We are dismayed by what is being propagated by some sections of the media that Our Presidential candidate Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi (JPAM) has had several meetings with his excellence the President of Uganda,” says Aisu Godwin Isaac, Coordinator Eastern Region.

“This is not true and should be treated with much contempt it deserves.
We are aware of what is being orchestrated by state operatives to make Ugandans believe that JPAM is interested in positions of authority instead of the desire to steer our Country into the right direction.”

He says the group was aware of the plot to pass onto this untrue rumour to all Ugandans that President Museveni is talking with Mbabazi of which the last meeting happened seven months back.

The peddlers, according to Isaac, have couched district NRM officers to pass onto the rumour to all members of the party.

He stated that all information regarding our Candidate meeting with the Head of state is wrong and is intended to misguide the public.

“The Rt. Hon. Amama is standing and will win the Presidency because of the hope, popularity and trust we Ugandans have in him.”

He said they were currently mobilizing all our members to go and register in the Yellow book.

West Nile marathon ahead of the walk to Kenya

Meanwhile, the Poor Youth re organising another Marathon in the West Nile region whose proceeds will go to the Poor Mothers in Arua Hospital.

It will start at Arua Taxi Park (06:00AM), via Arua Hospital to the White Rhino and continue the Oasis Inn, the state lodge and run to Mvara SS and to Ocumba Coast, cross River Osu to the Power Engine and return to Terego house (Gaagaa Office), continue through Afro triangle and KCB Bank to connect to Avenue Road and end at Arua hospital.

Thereafter, there is a rally at the Arua Hill and entertainment from local artists like J.M Kennedy and many more other performing artists, says Kato Isa, the National Coordinator (NRM POOR YOUTH FORUM).

“Our message is louder, we need a fundamental change through a peaceful transfer of power from President Museveni to the Pro Poor President John Patrick Amama Mbabazi.”

The Arua Marathon follows the March Marathon in Kampala which ended at the US embassy in Nsambya leading to the arrest of dozens of youth leaders.

They were demanding that President Yoweri Museveni leaves power so their candidate, Amama, can lead Uganda.

That was the sole reason why they organised a marathon to publicise Mbabazi ahead of 2016 general elections.

They were seen with placards of US president, Barack Obama, and those of Mbabazi bearing the words “Obama and Mbabazi, save Uganda NRM Poor Youth and the poor people of Uganda” before police cut them off.

Obama visiting Kenya gives them a new opportunity

The youth now think Obama’s visit to the neighbouring Kenya gives them a new opportunity to call upon him once more to save Uganda from Museveni.

According to White House, Obama will visit Kenya for only 8 hours.

The US Navy Seals will be in charge of all water bodies in East Africa.

The USA Secret Service, CIA, FBI will take over the Role of Kenya defense forces and all armed forces in Kenya.
