NRM youth Omodo Omodo and Denis Namara suffered the most miserable losses of their lives in the concluded NRM primaries.
We will not buy the myth spreading on social media linking their losses to being “driven around by President Yoweri Museveni in his car”.
Anyway, Omodo Omodo who is the chairperson for NRM youth northern Uganda ascended political ladders and tried his luck on the Oyam North MP seat.
He was badly trounced by Okello Engola who gathered 18,323 votes (53.4%) leaving Omodo to trail respectfully behind with 12,603 votes (36.7%.)
Others contenders; Oryang Awot Patrick got 6,382 votes (6%) while Moro Alele got 1,996 (5.8%).
Omodo was once a supporter of Amama Mbabazi before he switched to the Museveni camp.
In Buyaga West Kibaale district, Namara locked horns with incumbent Tinkasimire Barnabas in one of the chaotic polls in the district’s history.
Their encounter was violent even before the elections could start.
Back in 2014, Tinkasimire was arrested and detained for gate-crushing Namara’s wedding attended by President Yoweri Museveni.
On Monday, Tinkasimire stormed Namara’s meeting with police leading to his arrest and detention at Muhooro police station.
Tinkasimire’s supporters stormed the police station demanding his release.
On the election day, Namara and Tinkasimire shared a couple of punches and blows with one of them pulling out a panga and the other pulling out a gun.
Ballots for Kibaale were also mistakenly taken to Luweero district causing delays.
When the election did take place, Tinkasimire set out to teach the presidential advisor on youth affairs a lesson never to be forgotten.
Tinkasimire picked his lump sum 31,119 votes leaving Namara to lick his paws with 15,009 votes [less than a half].
Tinkasimire undoubtedly retained the NRM flag for Buyaga West.
