NRM Poor Youth Forum chairperson, Adam Luzindana, tells The Insider, the youth who yesterday defected to President Yoweri Museveni camp, were “crime preventers”.
The youths who met at Silver Springs hotel in Bugolobi claim that they were only supporting Mbabazi as a candidate within the NRM and they could no longer support him now that he is standing for president as an independent.
Led by leaders who identified themselves as NRM Poor youth coordinator for Nakawa, Dennis Kato, Secretary, Twaha Jungo, and a one Onesmus George Mutumba, the youth claim they were only supporting Mbabazi as a candidate within the NRM.
“For us we are NRM. Our blood is NRM, even our DNA. We are genetically NRM,” the told media.
Confess Shs 1.5m bribe
However, one of the youths at the defection meeting alleged that his colleagues had been paid Shs 1.5 million to defect and publicly pledge allegiance to Museveni.
According to NBS TV, after the youth reached a deal with officials from the NRM in Bugolobi, a box containing shirts bearing a portrait of president Museveni was carried in and all the youth given T-shirts.
“I will not dress in Museveni t-shirts (which everyone else was donning) after being bribed,” the youth who preferred not to be named told NTV.
Together with other colleagues, he refused to betray Mbabazi because of the money and stormed out of the meeting.
Luzindana on Thursday told us “those people who claim to have denounced Mbabazi are not members of NRM Poor Youth Forum neither have they ever met me for indoctrination”.
“NRM Poor Youth Forum fully support Amama Mbabazi and we are commuted to defeat Museveni in 2016,” Luzindana re-emphasised.
He added: “Those who claim to have denounced Mbabazi yesterday are crime preventers and security operatives.”
Luzindana accused senior spy Brig Henry Tumukunde, minister for Presidency, Frank Tumwebaze, the President’s Private Secretary, Maj Edith Nakalema, and Museveni’s personal assistant, Molly Kamukama, of staging the “show”.
“President Museveni is over panicking, his henchmen are stealing a lot of money from him to fight NRM Poor Youth Forum but they will not manage.”
He said, for example, Tumukunde was given close to Shs3bn to fight poor youth allied to Mbabazi.
