The ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] party has postponed indefinitely its primary elections slated for Thursday September 25, 2015.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the NRM Electoral Commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi, said the postponement was inspired by “unforeseen circumstances”.
Tanga sad in the meantime, all joint candidates meetings for MPs, LC V’s and mayors too have been suspended.
Only candidates meetings for lower local government councils and chairpersons can continue.
This postponement comes amid violence, allegations of rigging and influence peddling that marred the lower level elections.
It is believed the party is trying to resolve the impasse from elections at lower levels before commencing with the remaining polls.
In a tweet, deputy NRM spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, said the party would announce new dates soon.
