Richard Nyombi Byemalo, a former member of the ruling NRM secretariat has crossed to the opposition Forum for Democratic Change.
“I have officially defected from the NRM,” Byemalo told Insider.
Byemalo who has been a senior mobiliser, cadre and communications coordinator says he decided to join Dr Kizza Besigye and the FDC to “cause change to this country”.
“A number of reasons have forced me to quit but the most important reason is Mr President Yoweri Museveni’s long stay and the lies he has always based on,” Byemalo said.
Byemalo was part of the Amama Mbabazi run Secretariat from 2010 until 2013.
He used to report directly to Mbabazi before the team at the secretariat was dissolved.
Byemalo says after that, he kept in touch on several occasions with Hon Kasule Lumumba, who replaced Amama as the NRM Secretary General.
He says she has tried to persuade him not to leave but “I had got enough with the rubbish in the NRM”.
He was also a chief mobiliser for the youth in Makindye east consistency in the 2011 elections.
“I was also the chief mobiliser during the 2006 and 2011 mayoral elections where Peter Sematimba was an NRM candidate in the latter year.”
