Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM party Electoral Commission chairperson has ordered fresh registration of party members in Rwobuyagaza in Ngarama Sub County in Isingiro District.
Odoi says he was prompted to intervene after some party members from Rwobuyagaza in Ngarama Sub County petitioned his office on grounds that the yellow book had gone missing.
He says although the missing book was later found in Kampala at the home of Nathan Byanyima, the former Bukanga county Member of Parliament they cannot take things for granted since it is being contested by some members.
Everest Kateete, one of the petitioners accuses Byanyima of buying off the Bukanga County NRM party registrar Vincent Mugisha to hand over the Yellow book so that he can delete names of those he believes are opposed to him.
Mugisha claims that he was asked by the former legislator to deliver the book to his home in Kampala to allow some of his voters in the city to register.
Fred Ndyanabo, the Isingiro District NRM party registrar says the second round of registration exercise in Rwobuyagaza Ngarama Sub County has kicked off peacefully. He adds that those behind the mess have been asked to apologize to party members before they are readmitted.
Ndyanabo says both Vincent Mugisha the area registrar and former MP Nathan Byanyima apologised and took oath not to repeat the mistake before they were issued with new cards. Byanyima has not yet commented on the incident as he couldn’t be reached.
Byanyima contested the 2013 Bukanga county parliamentary bye elections and lost to Steven Kangwagye. He is however, plotting his comeback in the 2016 general elections.
