High Court in Soroti has kicked Serere Woman MP Hellen Adoa [NRM] out of parliament.
Hellen Adoa becomes the 21st Member of Parliament to be thrown out parliament.
This follows a petition filed by Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] candidate and former MP Alice Alaso.
Adoa was ejected after the presiding judge Justice Hon. Lady Justice Wolayo Henrietta faulted her for intimidation, electoral violence, vote rigging and bribery.
Justice Wolayo has ordered for fresh elections in the district.
Alaso, also FDC deputy president Eastern lost the seat after polling 32,651 votes against Adoa’s 48,762 votes in the February 2016 parliamentary elections.
Through her lawyers, M/S Tugwako Co. Advocates, Alaso rushed to court demanding that it quashes Adoa’s victory saying the election was marred by malpractices.
In the petition backed by the affidavits of Calvin Ewalu of Agora village in Bugondo sub-county and Martin Okoboi from Kateta sub-county, Serere district, Alaso said her rival bribed her way to victory.
Adoa, a prominent Teso businesswoman and proprietor of Hacyon High School in Soroti, had lost to Alaso in 2011 elections.
