NRM lawyers: Mbabazi likes fiction

NRM lawyers

The ruling NRM party lawyers of Kiwanuka and Karugire Advocates have written to the Electoral Commission Chairman, Eng Badru Kiggundu, protesting what they termed as “fictitious grievances” made by Amama Mbabazi against their candidate.

This comes after the Go Forward candidate wrote to EC protesting a planned visit to Mbale town by President Yoweri Museveni in the same week Mbabazi is campaigning in the district.

Mbabazi’s lawyers led by Fred Muwema, in their letter, said Museveni’s visit would provoke and disorganise their client’s rallies.

“The purpose of this letter is to notify you that Mr Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be responsible for any eventualities and/ or nasty consequences resulting from the sad provocative acts,” Mbabazi’s lawyers wrote.

Mbabazi will be campaigning in Mbale on January 9 and 10, 2015, the same days President Museveni is reportedly expected in the district.

NRM responds

In their letter dated January 8, NRM lawyers first reminded Mbabazi that Museveni remains the President of Uganda and therefore his state duties cannot be curtailed.

They further dismissed the claim that Museveni plans to visit Mbale district between January 9 and 10 as alleged.

“It has become a habit for the complainant to invent fictional grievances, such as this, which our client is then required to respond to,” the lawyers lashed out.

“We therefore request you to advise the complainant to substantiate this and all other future allegations he is sure to make.”

Instead, the NRM says Museveni will be campaigning in Isingiro district today, Saturday January 9, 2015.

He will not be holding any rallies tomorrow, Sunday.
