Supporters of the ruling party, NRM, have stormed Kyadondo headquarters protesting a recent defeat in the division mayoral elections.
The Kampala Central division Mayoral seat was taken by Ssaalongo Charles Musoke Sserunjogi after defeating the NRM candidate, Nsegumire Mohammad Kibedi.
Sserunjogi, an independent polled 13,717 votes while Kibedi picked 10,153 votes.
Sserunjogi had lost his seat to NRM’s Godfrey Amooti Nyakaana in 2006 and 2011 respectively.
He reclaimed it on Wednesday.
NRM candidate protests
On Friday afternoon, Kibedi’s supporters headed to the party headquarters claiming he was rigged out of the election.
Kibedi claims the elections were not free and fair.
His agents say according to their results, it was him [Kibedi] who won and not Sserunjogi.
NRM electoral commission chairman, Tanga Odoi, is yet to address their grievance.
