The National Resistance Movement party now has new offices in Buhweju district thanks to a donation by Friends and family members of the late Joy Arinaitwe Karisa, the former Member of Parliament for the district.
The structure worth over 100 million will house offices for all the NRM legislators in the district.
It will also have offices for the NRM Chairman, the district NRM General Secretary, administrative staff, and a conference hall.
It was built in memory of the late Joy Karisa, who served as woman Member of Parliament for Buhweju district for two years prior to her death on 3rd September, 2013.
The building was handed over to NRM leaders by Eng. John Bosco Karisa, the husband to the fallen legislator at a function held in Nsiika town council last evening.
The party’s acceptance of donations in form of offices comes at a time it has failed to pay rent for its existing offices.
Party offices face closure in Bushenyi over rent
According to Daily Monitor, the NRM office in Bushenyi District risks being closed over failure by the party to clear Shs 11 million in rent arrears.
Amos Mugisha, the landlord, told the newspaper that the party is supposed to pay Shs 300,000 every month for the office on High Street in Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality.
He said he was recently paid only Shs 1m yet he has a family to feed and children to send to school.
“I have not been paid for the last three years and this is being unfair to me because I have school-going children. I have given them up to next week to clear what they owe or I lock the doors,” Mugisha said sorrowfully.
Bushenyi District NRM registrar, Lawrence Mbeera, confessed that they have not paid rent for three years saying the NRM secretary general, Justine Kasule Lumumba, knows why.
