“It’s upon Amama Mbabazi and Hon. Jacqueline Mbabazi to attend or not,” NRM deputy secretary general, Richard Todwong said.
Todwong was yesterday addressing press at the party headquarters in Kyadondo on the upcoming NRM delegates’ conference.
To be held at Namboole stadium, the conference will be graced by about 15,000 delegates with the aim of nominating the party chairman and President, Yoweri Museveni.
“Until otherwise decided, Amama Mbabazi is in the 9th parliament on the NRM ticket. He is supposed to attend,” Todwong said.
Todwong revealed that Amama Mbabazi’s issue is before the party organs.
He said Hon. Jacqueline Mbabazi is also expected to attend because she is the chairperson women’s league.
However, Hon Hope Mwesigye is not supposed to attend because she was replaced as NRM district chairperson Kabale district.
Todwong said they have extended invitations to sister parties in Uganda and in East Africa.
Amama was sacked as party secretary general last year and replaced with Hon Kasule Lumumba.
The Kinkizi west legislator opted to stand as president outside the ruling party which he accused of mistreatment.
It is not clear whether he will accept the invitation to return to Namboole where he was humiliated.
Todwong said after the presidential nomination of November 3, President Yoweri Museveni will launch the NRM Manifesto for the 2016 elections.
“After nomination in the morning we shall have a rally at Kololo to present the NRM candidate to the public.”
On 31st October all NRM Leagues will elect their leaders.
“A good leader in an organization doesn’t have to please everyone,” he said.
On the 2nd day, the party will conduct elections of the regional vice chairperson and confirm the unopposed.
“We are going to get reports from the party SG and Chairman of the party for the first and second day.”
Burning of party cards
Todwong denied the burning of cards and urinating on Museveni T-shirts by party members.
“Some of the cards that are said to belong to NRM are not our cards. All NRM cards have serial numbers basing on districts. Each district has a serial number.”
He said the ruling party has security features on their party cards.
“We have serial numbers. We know our genuine cards.”
He said there are so many fake cards that were given by opponents and that their support base is intact.
