NRM boss defects as Mbabazi ejects spies

Amama Mbabazi in Masaka

A top official in the ruling party has defected to Go Forward presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi in Mubende district.

Asanasio Kayizzi, a former spokesperson for the ruling NRM party in Mubende District accuses NRM of failing to appreciate his contribution in the last 30 years.

Kayizzi told Daily Monitor in an interview that he has spent a lot of his valuable time serving as NRM spokesperson but has not benefited from the party.

“I have dedicated a lot of my time working for NRM, but I have not been appreciated. When you complain, they start labelling you as a traitor, sometimes abusing you,” he is quoted telling the newspaper.

Kayizzi is the former Kassanda North MP but lost the NRM flag for Mubende District chairperson seat to Francis Kibuuka Amooti in the October 2015 primaries.

He claims to have been rigged out.

According to Steven Ssemango Kasozi, the Mubende District NRM spokesperson, Kayizzi is not such “a big loss”.

Mbabazi dissolves team over NRM spies

Meanwhile, Mbabazi has dissolved his campaign team in Iganga district amid claims of infiltration by NRM.

Go Forward National Campaign Task Force member, Dr Waiswa Kibumba, dissolved the team led by Atim Mpata on Friday and replaced it by one led by the Speaker of Iganga District Council, Herbert Kisaame.

The new team includes: Musisi Isabirye (Vice Chairman), Alex Kiwanuka (Logistics Officer), Paul Buyinza (in Charge Youth Desk), Omar Gandi ( Publicity), Geofrey Musobya (Electoral Affairs) and Rebecca Suubo (Women Affairs).

Kisaame, the new chairman of the campaign team, told Monitor they will ensure Mbabazi wins the February election.

Go Forward Team’s Coordinator in Iganga Municipality, Peterson Wambuzi, told the newspaper Mbabazi was not impressed with the level of organization and public turn up at his rallies in Busembatia Town Council and Iganga Town, a scenario which was blamed on Atim Mpata, who is believed to have deliberately failed the team’s mobilization efforts after reportedly being reached by some leaders of the ruling NRM.

Mpata was reportedly holding meetings with NRM officials in the district to sabotage the former Prime Minister.
