It was joy unlimited as Entebbe based institution; Nkumba University in clinical fashion outsmarted eight other teams to win the 5th edition of the university beach soccer championship at Lido beach on Sunday.
After years of near misses, lady luck eventually smiled upon Nkumba for their first title in five years since the championship’s inception.
Nkumba qualified from pool B alongside a star studded St Lawrence University side.
They easily humiliated YMCA 7-4 in the finals.
John Kokas Opejo scored four goals as Uganda Sand Cranes deputy captain, Douglas Muganga registered a hat-trick.
For YMCA, Ambrose Naturinda, scored a hat-trick and an own goal from Nkumba defender, Jonathan Kikonyogo helped YMCA add to their team tally.
YMCA’s Ashadu Bugembe was shown marching orders for unsporting conduct.
Earlier in the semifinals, Nkumba overcame two time winners, MUBS 7-3 while YMCA had beaten St Lawrence 5-2.
Nine Institutions participated in the annual event graced by Association of Uganda Sports Universities president, president, Peninah Kabenge.
Ambrose Naturinda of YMCA took home the Most Valuable Player (YMCA) honors.
St Lawrence University’s Brian Nkuubi finished with 8 goals to take home the top scorer’s award.
Nkumba University goal keeper, Joseph Yiga was nominated as best goal keeper of the tournament.
