Uganda’s leading premium Nile Breweries Limited is under police investigation following an incident in which one of its employees was eaten up by a factory machine.
Eng. William Buluma was reportedly crushed to death as he was cleaning the conveyor room.
A friend who asked not to be named because he’s not authorized to speak to the media said a strap on the 30 year old engineer’s protective gear got stuck in the machines as he bent to pick his wallet which had fallen then.
“ His wallet dropped down and when he tried to pick it, a strap on his head protective gear got stuck in the machines and that’s how he was pulled and his face crushed beyond recognition,” said a friend.
According to the deceased’s brother Richard revealed that after the company had realized that Buluma was dead, they contacted A-Plus funeral services and secretly rushed the body to Mengo hospital mortuary before informing his family and police.
However, Nile breweries dismissed the claims as baseless.
When contacted on the matter, Nile Brewaries Communications Manager, Sumin Namaganda confirmed the incident saying the matter is under police investigations.
In a statement issued on June 3, Nile Breweries corporate affairs director Mr Onapito Ekomoloit also said, “The death occurred within our plant but the circumstances are under Police investigation. The family has arranged burial for Saturday June 4, 2016 in Busia District along Tiira Road at 2:00pm.”
