Popular Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has arrived in the country ahead of her scheduled headline performance at the Uganda Entertainment Awards (UEA) this Friday.
The Johnny hitmaker landed at Entebbe airport at 3am today aboard an Ethiopian Airline, after which she and her entourage were ushered to their abode at the swanky Speke Resort Munyonyo.
The 27-year-old afropop star is scheduled to visit various media houses today. She will do her rehearsals tomorrow ahead of Friday’s show at Serena Hotel in Kampala.
She will be joined by Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol and Tanzania’s Ali Kiba as the guest performers of the evening at this year’s awards.
A slew of top Ugandan artistes including Madox Sematimba, Sheeba Karungi and Ziza Bafana are also lined up to perform at the red carpet fete that will become the second African event to ever be featured on American entertainment television giant E! after the South African Saftas in March.
Now in their second annual edition, the UEA seek to transform Uganda’s entertainment industry by celebrating its most outstanding talents on a global platform.
A total of 47 accolades will be given out at this year’s ceremony with singers Eddy Kenzo and Sheebah Karungi leading the awards race with six and five nods, respectively.
The pair will go neck and neck for the Artiste of the Year and Video of the Year categories with the Queen tipped for triumph.
Gaetano Kagwa’s BBA I ex-girlfriend, South African TV host Abby Plaatjes, together with Liverpool FC legend Robbie Fowler are among a slew of international guests expected to grace the hotly-billed event.
