Nation Media Group (NMG) has laid down new plans to consolidate its two televisions under their flagship brand NTV [Kenya and Uganda].
NMG is the largest media firm in East and Central Africa with outlets in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda.
In a release today, NMG said it was scaling down its traditional radio businesses in Rwanda and Kenya, which will affect NationFM and QFM in Kenya as well as KFM Rwanda.
“Regrettably, this will result in a reduction of our workforce through job redundancies,” the statement said.
Acknowledging that the decision would be hard for the affected employees and their families, NMG promised to extend the needed support.
The new plans take effective June 30, 2016.
Clifford Machoka, the NMG Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, says the trends have changed and customers have developed new consumption habits.
He said as such, NMG is reorganising itself to transform the Group into a modern 21st century digital content company embracing a digital/mobile first business model.
