The embattled Lands State Minister and Kayunga district woman MP, Aida Nantaba yesterday turned down an invitation to attend Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s function.
Nantaba claimed she could not attend the function which was presided over by president Museveni because it had been organized by her bitter political rival Moses Karangwa.
President Museveni had gone to commission the new Kayunga district office block.
The Nantaba a National Resistance (NRM) fiery cadre and Karangwa, a businessman, started intensified last year when he defeated her in the party primaries and seized the Kayunga district NRM chairperson.
At the time, Nantaba’s camp alleges that the Karangwa hired armed men who intimidated their candidate and later rigged her out of the election.
The businessman denied the claims saying the election was free and fair.
The minister was then quoted telling supporters at her Ndeeba home that she would stand as an independent in the Kayunga district woman MP race.
Nantaba had earlier threatened to quit NRM if it failed to organise credible elections.
She was recently in the news for staging an unsuccessful fist fight with her rival, Juliet Nalunga.
