Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s lawyer Severino Twinobusingye has told Supreme Court that President Yoweri Museveni was illegally nominated.
Chief Justice Bart Katureebe then asked
Severino if he has looked at the nomination forms of Museveni and Amama and noticed any difference.
” It is their(EC) responsibility to know so thus Museveni wasn’t supposed to be nominated, stand and thus not announced as a winner,” the lawyer replied.
He said Museveni’s nomination was a false representation because there was no delegation.
He said the electoral commission ought to have rejected his papers but they went ahead and accepted them.
Saverino submits that the 1st respondent (Museveni) wasn’t legally nominated which presents a fundamental bridge.
Museveni hadn’t been endorsed by all NRM organs at the time he submitted papers which contravened the law, argued the lawyer.
Saverino said Museveni was nominated to stand for president before his party nominated him.
“Before submission of nomination papers, one has to be endorsed, that’s not what the 1st respondent (Museveni) did.”
The Chief Justice demanded for evidence that Severino was basing on to claim that Museveni submitted his papers to EC before endorsement.
The lawyer had no evidence in the affidavit to back his claim.
