President Yoweri Museveni has handed over a number of agricultural tractors, tools and equipment and other machinery to different groups in Northern Uganda, Karamoja, Teso, Bunyoro and the Luwero-Rwenzururu region in fulfilment of the Presidential pledges to those regions.
The equipment that includes 26 agricultural tractors, 946 ox-ploughs, 100,000 hand hoes, 8 hydraform machines, 50 grain milling machines and many others were handed over to the different beneficiaries at a ceremony that took place this afternoon at Kololo Independence Ceremonial grounds in Kampala.
Speaking at the occasion, the President, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Janet Museveni, observed that as the country is experiencing total peace after crashing rebellions and disarming the Karamajong cattle rustlers, the remaining challenge was to overcome household poverty through generating wealth and producing for food consumption and also for the market.
Also present was the Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, among other dignitaries.
President Museveni just returned home Thursday at the conclusion of a 5-day working visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York, in USA.
During his working visit in the USA, President Museveni delivered a keynote address at the UN Forum on Strengthening Cooperation between the UN and Regional and Sub-Regional Organizations.
