Museveni unblocks social media after US pressure

Right now many Ugandans are happy to be back on social media.

Facebook, Whatsap and Twitter had been blocked on the election day Feb. 18, 2016 for the “security and safety” of Ugandans.

The US Department of State issued two press releases telling Museveni to unblock Social Media in the interests of transparency during this election period and freedom for people to express themselves.

As you read this article, Ugandans are now back online.

Many had found ways to unblock the social media anyway so some people did remain online despite UCC having instructed the Telecom companies to block the social media.

Ugandans were paying $10,000,000 per day that the Social Media and Mobile Money were blocked since the Telecom investors are not in Uganda for charity.
