Isingiro District has received relief aid from government following famine that has not the district leaving at least three people dead and several homeless as they sell their land to buy food for their families.
State minister for relief disaster preparedness and refugees Musa Ecweru delivered the relief mostly food items to Isingiro hunger stricken communities.
However, Isingiro district LC 5 Chairman, Jeremiah Kamurari, says the food relief offered by the government is insufficient.
According to him, the district has a population of about 325,800 people, with the biggest percentage hardly accessing food and clean water but the good rations delivered by government is not enough to serve that population.
Speaking to press yesterday, opposition leader Kizza Besigye wondered how people can die of hunger and the president looks on unconcerned.
“People are dying and many are going to die because of Hepatitis B yet somebody being called “president” is carrying jerrycans,” Besigye stated.
He added: “Hunger is killing people yet there is opulence and redirection of resources that would feed our people.”
He said the amount of money wasted at State House is criminal.
“Many rich countries don’t spend that much on management of a leader’s home”
Makerere university LCV councillor Doreen Nyanjura was also upset by the fact that the president was busy donating splash beverages in Luweero while Isingiro starves.
“He is now donating splash! Take a look at those he is donating the splash! And the smile on his face!” Nyanjura lashed out.
