Wednesday, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met a group of government medical practitioners from across the country at State House, Entebbe.
The President emphasized the need to enforce disease prevention rather than cure.
“Over 80% of the sicknesses today are preventable,” Museveni said. They are caused largely by backwardness and conservativeness, he added.
The President urged the Health ministry to draft a prevention strategy and serve as a regulator of medical personnel and good service delivery as this would help save a lot of money spent on treatment.
Furthermore, Museveni expressed his displeasure towards the inaccessibility of medical services by people.
“There should be no stories of people failing to access medical services,” he said.
At the same meet the President pledged to raise salaries of doctors and other scientists, saying they are of topmost priority.
On health insurance, the President assured the gathering.
“we shall hold a stakeholder meeting to map the way forward.”
