President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the newly refurbished Entebbe General Referral Hospital (Grade B).
The new complex was constructed at a cost of about $7m funded by the government of Uganda and the World Bank under the Uganda Health Systems Strengthening Programme.
He said it is important to have and build hospitals, however, good health is not in having hospitals, it is in avoiding diseases.
“With preventive health measures, you avoid 80% of diseases.”
The president encouraged residents to immunise against cervical cancer and other diseases, maintain good hygiene, drink clean safe water, avoid HIV and excessive alcohol consumption.
“You should not cause yourself harm so that you go to hospital.”
He implored leaders and the media to teach people on healthy living.
“Good health starts with avoiding sickness.”
