Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has mourned fallen Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro whom he described as a friend, brother and leader.
“Today, Uganda, Africa and the world have lost a very honourable, loyal and reliable friend and comrade in Fidel Castro. My sincere condolences to the people of the Republic of Cuba. May his soul rest in peace,” said Museveni.
According to Museveni, Fidel Castro, whom US president-elect Donald Trump described as a ‘brutal dictator’ who oppressed his people, redefined Africa’s path to self-rule and eventual independence in the 1960s and 70s by supporting “our liberation movements.”
After surviving more than 600 assassination attempts, defying 11 US presidents and shaping half a century of history, Fidel Castro has died at age 90.
