President Yoweri Museveni has accused his former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, of telling lies about the whereabouts of his body guard, Christopher Aine.
Speaking to press at his country home in Iremba, Ntungamo District today, flanked by his wife and First Lady, Janet Museveni, the president said Aine was being hidden by unknown people.
“That boy is being hidden by some people. I don’t want to say it is Mbabazi who is hiding him.”
Museveni said Aine will pay because they caught him on camera hitting people with a club.
He wondered how Mbabazi could sit back doing nothing while his men beat up NRM supporters in Ntungamo clashes of late last year.
“We discovered that Aine is in hiding. Those who are advising him, maybe, are the ones hiding him,” the president insisted.
He said government was not responsible for Aine’s disappearance.
“Mbabazi is telling lies. He should be held accountable for what happened in Ntungamo. Those who were beating people with clubs you saw them, Mbabazi was in his convoy seated and quiet.”
Museveni said Mbabazi has a moral problem because he has been the one running the government although the Go Forward candidate says as Prime Minister, he had no powers at all.
“We must condemn electoral violence. When NRM supporters were beaten in Ntungamo, they came to us seeking permission to retaliate. I made it clear I will not allow civilian-to-civilian violence.”
He added: “But I must also make it clear that those who were behind the violence have been arrested and will be prosecuted. Those still in hiding will be found and arrested.”
Both court and police has already issued summons for Aine to appear before them and face the law.
Aside from politics, Museveni reiterated the fact that his government shall spend more money in wanainchi funds to create household wealth.
Addressing a rally at Bukanga Constituency in Isingiro District, Museveni shared with supporters the motivation for the doctrine of unity.
“NRM preaches that we are all created in the image of God. That’s why we don’t discriminate.”
He continued: “If you’re a cattle keeper, who buys your milk and beef? It’s the traders. Those who tell you to glorify tribes and religion are wrong and ignorant.”
He said, for example, that now, Rutooma, Rwangabo, Ndizi all have electricity.
Isingiro has four Health Centre IVs, 17 Health Centre IIIs, and 33 Health Centre IIs.
There are two sub-counties without Health Centre IIIs; Mbaale and Rushaha.
“They will get. You have been having a problem of water. Borehole water is not easily accessed in such hilly places. We shall work on getting water from River Kagera. It is shared with Tanzania and we wanted to build a valley dam but this project will be planned better with the new President of Tanzania.”
On the side of roads, he said Kikagati-Birongo was tarmacked while a plan is being drawn to tarmack Isingiro-Ntantamuki-Rakai road.
Isingiro District will also get a new hospital, he pledged.
“People of Bukanga I want you to be patient with us on the issue of water. I will address this issue again on radio before I leave Mbarara. I know this has been lagging but it will be finalized soon.”
