Museveni masks 30,000 militias as crime preventers

Museveni at the passout of crime preventers

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has passed out 30,000 crime- preventers from the district of Ntungamo who have completed a cadership and crime prevention course conducted by the Uganda police force at Kyamate secondary school grounds.

He urged the youth to live their lives responsibly.

“You are moving to the prime of your life, you should value your health,” he said.

He then addressed 800 teachers and students at a Patriotism training ceremony at Nyakayojo S.S in Mbarara District.

“The leading principle is that of nationalism. In the 1960s, our leaders had become disoriented and were practicing sectarian based politics. The catholic belonged to DP, the Protestants to UPC and the Baganda to Kabaka ‘Yeka’. But we used this principle and liberated the country.”

The president also sung the national anthem to explain his point further.

Recently, Museveni presided over the passing out of over 8,000 crime preventers at Nyakasharara grounds in Kiruhura district.

While addressing the crime preventers, the President stressed the need of such groups saying that they are very important to beef up security.

He also passed out another 2,000 youth in Mubende who had been undergoing a training in agricultural practices.

According to a former head of political intelligence desk in State House, Charles Rwomushana, President Museveni is passing out a huge mass of militia under the cover of crime preventers.

He said while on a recent Gassimbagane program, radio Simba, Peter Kibazo (the moderator) made an alert in the public interest about “this militia that was brought in to colour the occasion of president Museveni as he sealed his coronation as solo- candidate”.

This huge militia as it returned home indulged in looting and assaulting people, says Rwomushana.

“They were armed and had a field day to themselves.”

“In fact indications are they lack in command, are immune to police action, and I too wish to alert Folks and Foes to stay away from them as they withdraw from president Museveni rallies for they could indulge in more serious crimes.”

Crime preventers have been named in robberies and others even arrested.

They went on record as partisan recently when they helped bury Amama Mbabazi alive in Gulu district.
