On Tuesday afternoon, President Yoweri Museveni stormed Mulago hospital unannounced, catching everyone off-guard.
When The observer published the story on Friday, many people dismissed it as a Fools Day prank.
However, the presidential press secretary Lindah Nabusayi confirmed to us that the president indeed did visit the national referral hospital.
Asked whether it was a joke, Lindah said: “No it wasn’t. He [Museveni] made impromptu visit, talked to patients and staff.”
She said the president talked to some of the patients currently admitted at the hospital.
As expected, he found patients unattended to while medical officers lounged around.
The hospital administrators who never expected such a rare occurrence was to suffer the biggest shock of their lives.
Save for the lack of drugs and congestion, the president got first hand accounts from patients about the negligence of hospital staff.
This comes at a time the hospital is undergoing massive renovations to make it a first class facility.
