Several people are currently expressing mixed reactions following Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s decision to throw out the controversial age limit bill the tabled by Nakifuma legislator Hon. Kafeero Ssekitoleko.
The Butambala legislator Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi who also doubles as the shadow minister for internal affairs is now accusing President Yoweri Museveni of being responsible for all the mess happening in the country.
While appearing on a talk show on a local radio station CBS FM on Wednesday evening, Hon. Kivumbi said Members of Parliament are not to blame for whatever happens during legislation since all the wrong decisions made are all influenced by the president who bribes them and is even forced to attend plenary for the sake of getting favours from the house.
“Put in consideration the seating when parliament was voting the Speaker and deputy speaker. This is something that forced government to bribe each NRM MP with Shs5m just to vote Museveni’s favourite Hon. Jacob Oulanyah,” said Hon. Kivumbi
Hon. Kivumbi also claimed that President Museveni is just trying to mimic former president Doctor Apollo Milton Obote who also tried to amend the constitution to enable him stay in power for long.
“Our Members of Parliament are not stupid, they are highly learned but they are betrayed by President Museveni who doesn’t respect their independence,” said Hon. Kivumbi.
The legislator however called upon all the committee members reviewing the constitution to make amendments that matter and contribute to national development not issues benefiting individuals.
“If you are amending the constitution to favour a good leader, take note that a bad leader may come in power and that very constitution will defend the bad leader to stay in power. There imagine what may happen? Why term limits of all things? We have many good leaders that may even perform better than the ones NRM is trying to protect.”
