The ruling party candidate President Yoweri Museveni has hired a team of 36 lawyers to defend him against an election petition filed by his former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.
Mbabazi dragged the electoral commission, President Yoweri Museveni and the Attorney General Fred Ruhindi to Supreme Court challenging the outcomes of the 2016 presidential elections.
His petition will be heard on Monday by nine judges; Augustine Nshimye, Easter Kisakye, Rubby Opio Aweri, Jonathan Tumwesigye, Stella Arach-Amoko, Eldad Mwangushya, Faith Mwodha and Lilian E. Tibatemwa.
Mbabazi according to reports has 400 lawyers on the case 60 of whom are already deployed for the first hearing on March 7.
The electoral commission has hired its own four lawyers to defend it and they are; Enos Tumusiime, Mc Dusman Kabega, Alfred Oryem-Okello, Enock Barata and Elison Karuhanga and Eric Sabiiti.
The AG Ruhindi will be represented by Francis Atoke, Dennis Bireije and Martin Mwambutsya, Patricia Mutesi, Elisha Bafilawala, George Karemera and Jackie Amusugut.
On his return from Tanzania Thursday, President Museveni was served a copy of the petition which he promised to respond to in three days.
In the meantime, the president has lined up his own team of 36 lawyers to defend him.
The team is led by James Mukasa-Ssebugenyi the NRM head of legal services, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the NRM legal counsel and Edwin Karugire, Museveni’s son-in-law.
