The Democratic Party president Norbert Mao and former minister of ethics and integrity minister Hon. Maria Matembe have showed their worry over status of opposition in the country.
Appearing NBS TV Thursday night talk show programme the Frontline, the duo told the Uganda people’s Congress president Hon. Jimmy Akena that he has sold the party to NRM.
“Hon. Akena, you, and the whole party has been swallowed by President Museveni. He started by buying you a car and now he has appointed your madam.” said Matembe.
Though Hon. Akena tried clarifying how he is how the party is still strong but the duo challenged him asking how he is going to criticise and negotiate for power yet his family is already compromised with the appointment of his wife as a minister.
Hon. Jimmy Akena is the son of former President of Uganda Dr. Apollo Milton Obotte and has been president of the UPC party about three years though during the recently concluded election, Hon. Akena decided to back President Museveni and was in turn rewarded with the ministerial position that was given to his wife Hon. Betty Amongi.
