President Yoweri Museveni has directed his Prime minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, to procure 18 million hand hoes.
The hoes will be distributed to 6 million households with small pieces of land to boost food security and incomes.
In a presidential directive dated November 20, 2015, Museveni says that cabinet had discussed the purchase and distribution of those hoes wondering what had happened to the project.
Critics already suggest that the president is indirectly “bribing voters” in his campaign trail ahead of February 2016 general elections.
Cynics on the other hand laughed at the president’s gesture saying the hand hoe has no place in modern economy the president has been claiming to be building.
In another directive, Museveni ordered an immediate government to handle the Hepatitis B epidemic in West Nile and in Northern Uganda.
The president also directed on security requirements on government loans at the Microfinance Support Centre.
All these are contained in directives issued by presidential press secretary, Lindah Nabusayi.
