Museveni gives Fufa Shs600m to pay Micho, Cranes players’ salaries

President Yoweri Museveni has donated Shs600m to the national team, The Cranes, to prepare for Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The president announced the donation in a telephone call with the FUFA president Moses Magogo this morning.

“I offered Shs660 million to the Uganda Cranes to help in their preparations for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana scheduled for 7th October 2016,” he said in a short statement.

He said the money will also help clear three months salary arrears for the head coach, Micho.

“I tasked Mr Magogo to tell the team to represent our country with pride and assured them of my full support.”

This follows a public outcry in defense of the national coach who helped Uganda qualify for African Cup of Nations yet he was never paid his salary.

The players too were grieving having not been paid allowances and bonuses promised if they qualified for Afcon.

The president’s offer is expected to motivate both the coach and the national team.
