The two presidential candidates met at Namugongo catholic martyrs shrine on Saturday while attending the papal mass.
In what many have already termed as Pope Francis’ greatest miracle in Uganda, the two rivals were photographed shaking hands and even smiling genuinely.
Besigye who served as Museveni’s personal doctor in the bush war later broke away from the ruling party in early 2000s to stand for presidency.
He accused the incumbent of deviating from the core principles for which they fought in the bush.
He stood against Museveni in 2001, 2006 and 2011 elections losing all.
Besigye is again running against Museveni in the 2016 general elections.
Today’s event also the former NRM Secretary General, Amama Mbabazi, pose in the same picture with the new SG, Kasule Lumumba.
He was also photographed with the new Prime Minister who replaced him, Ruhakana Rugunda.
Ugandans have been crying out and praising Kenya for exhibiting political maturity saying rivals Raila Odinga [opposition] can meet and even agree with President Uhuru Kenyatta when it comes to matters concerning the country.
Such incidents have been lacking in Uganda where individuals seem to put themselves first and the country second-but not according to what happened at Namugongo.
