Museveni discusses oil in Japan

President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in the Japanese Capital Tokyo for a four day working visit at the invitation of the government of Japan.

The President who is accompanied by the First Lady and Minister for Karamoja Affairs Janet Kataha Museveni was received on arrival at Haneda International Airport by Uganda’s Ambassador to Japan Betty Akech, Hon. Okello Oryem Hon. Matia Kasaija, Hon. John Byabagambi and Ms. Edith Namutebi, Deputy Head of Mission

During their stay in Japan, the President and his spouse will make a State Call on their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace.

They will later be hosted to a luncheon by the royal couple.

During his visit, President Museveni is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and it is expected that the two leaders will discuss various development projects supported by Japan in Uganda.
Japan has been vital in supporting governments “Prosperity for All” programme through improving the rural transport network to boost the volume of trading activities between the East African countries which is rapidly growing.

Uganda places very high priority on the improvement of social and economic infrastructure such as roads and electric power on its development strategy and has strongly sought assistance in this sector.


Museveni and Janet being received in Japan

Japan is now supporting the construction project of the New Nile Bridge at Jinja which is a key infrastructure project which inter-connects roads to neighboring countries such as Kenya, DR Congo, Sudan and Rwanda.

The Prime Minister will later host President Museveni to a dinner before the two leaders address a joint press conference at the Prime Ministers residence

Among other things, the President will meet with Japan Key Business Executives and with the Japan-AU Parliamentary League Members of Parliament.

He will also meet a delegation from the Japan External Trade Organization led by their Chairman, Mr. Hiroyuki Ishige.

Later he will also meet the President of Japan Oil, Gas & Metal National Cooperation, Mr. Hirobiki Kawano before meeting & witnessing the Signing of a loan agreement with Japan Bank of International Cooperation.
